Our recent chess class brought together a bright group of young learners eager to explore the fascinating world of chess. Each session was filled with curiosity, laughter, and the satisfying sound of pieces clicking across the board as students learned to think ahead, plan their moves, and enjoy the challenge of the game.

The class was designed to make chess both approachable and engaging. We began each session with a short warm-up activity—puzzles, brain teasers, and chess-themed coloring—to get everyone settled in and thinking creatively. Then, students split into smaller groups where our mentors guided them through lessons tailored to their skill levels. Each class wrapped up with a short review, allowing everyone to share what they learned and prepare for the next session.
Over the course of the program, students built their knowledge step by step:
Week 1: Introduction to the pieces—learning their names, roles, and importance.
Week 2: Understanding the board, legal moves, and basic positioning.
Week 3: Practicing captures and early gameplay strategies.
Week 4: Learning about checkmate patterns and playing full games with confidence.
Beyond the rules and strategies, the class encouraged teamwork, patience, and focus—skills that go far beyond the chessboard. It was amazing to watch each student grow more comfortable with the game, celebrating every clever move and learning moment.
We’re so proud of how much progress our students made and can’t wait to continue helping them sharpen their skills in future sessions. Chess isn’t just a game—it’s a lifelong adventure in thinking, creativity, and connection.
